Nelliyampathy is often called the poor man’s Ooty, though it is far quieter and far greener. Winding up from the Palakkad plains, the road passes spice and orange estates before opening onto cliff-top viewpoints with the plains stretched out far below.
Stand at Seethargundu with clouds rolling over the valley, visit Pothundi Dam at its foot, and enjoy cool evenings at an estate stay. It is a perfect short getaway for those who want hills, silence and a slower pace without the crowds.
